Go With The Flow~ ^^

Helllooooo… I'm back on the scene again! Apology for my disappearance.. I was a little sidetracked for quite a while.

In the past 4 months, I've changed 3 part time jobs! That's like nearly 1 per month? Did I just set a record? I used to cringe at the idea of having to start all over again in a new environment, but now I'm actually enjoying it; new friends, new things to learn, new experiences!

No doubt the same question has been thrown to me countless times as to why I resist a full time job so much. And I know many people think I'm being 'unrealistic' or 'immature'. I think that's being judgemental. Most people are comfortable with a stable job but are they REALLY happy with what they're doing for a living? I'll leave the answer to them. Call me stubborn, 'weird', or be secretly jealous of me all you want because I'll still not trade in my freedom for a meaningless better-paid job.

Yes, I admit sometimes I do get stressed up when I have trouble making ends meet (most of the time it's because clients do not pay on time -.- but that's beside the point). In my years of learning, I've come to understand that stress actually come from our feeling of fear. We get stressed when we feel overwhelmed. As I learn to let go of the need to be in control of every circumstances, I become more at peace with myself.. and with life. When we stop resisting change, life can be so much more enjoyable! What I'll always remind myself if thing doesn't work out the way I like, is to slow down, make some adjustment if I need to. Alternatively, it may be my Angels' way of telling me they have something better in store for me. I just need to have some faith and a little patience. :)

----------------

A few days ago, I received an email from one of my customers. This wonderful lady from Israel bought several pieces of my works on my online store and returned to purchase more shortly after. She told me how much she loves my works and wanted to frame them all and put up on her wall. When I saw these lovely photos in her email, I was close to tears. I had never imagined someone would love my works so much to want to showcase them in her house. This was her message to me,

''Hi Rheea! It took a while but... here are some pictures of my living room wall with your gorgeous illustrations. Everyone here loves it and i L-O-V-E it! You can be proud of your self, you are very talented! I am very picky about pictures hanging on my walls, but the minute i saw your works, i knew exactly - this is what i want!''

Perhaps sometimes all we need is just a little assurance about what we've fought so hard for... Thank you, Aviya. :’)

My Works At Esplanade Shop

As I've mentioned, you may now find my works at another store and it is inside this HUGE 'durian' of Singapore. Yummy~

(Esplanade, also known as the 'big durian' is a performing arts venue for local and international performances).

Esplanade Shop is located at, 8 Raffles Avenue #02-02, Singapore 033801.

Their management is pretty strict with the 'no photo-taking within the shop' rule so I wasn't able to snap photos on some of the coolest stuffs they carry. Apparently you can find a wide variety of merchandise in this shop. From postcards, music cds, books, apparels, fashion accessories to their signature commemorative coins of the Esplanade. If you're here on a holiday, be sure to drop by and bring back some unique souvenirs with you!

How can you not get a lovely note card to go with that special gift? ;) My prints are also available here.

Also, when you visit the Esplanade from now till July, don't forget to say hello to these erm........... interesting looking guys. These ethereal figures are the creation of Pakistani sculptor, Khalil Chishtee. See how he transformed the plain-looking plastic rubbish bags we use in our daily lives into these inspiring work of art.

My favorite! Isn't he the coolest?

I can't help but wonder whose these belong to.................... Lol.

Could it be hers???? Oh my, someone pls help her down!!!!!

You may even find these adorable comic doodles along the stretch of wall at the underground leading to the CityLink Mall. Anyone is welcome to 'vandalise' them!

The chinese phrase, '天天向上' means to be keen in learning and progress everyday.

Hahaha. This is so cute!

Latest Work!

I couldn't get the idea of black roses out of my head, so I came out with another version from my blue/purple ones. Did this in ink (pen) and shaded the background in photoshop. Yay! I got my black roses afterall. :)

Now I need help to name this piece. Anyone? A VERY helpful friend suggested, 'Blah Blah Black Rose'.... Thanks but no thanks. I'd rather keep it as, 'Dark Romance'. -___-'

Print will be available for sale soon (once I decide on the name!).

Sorry, there won't be any print for this. I tried printing it at the printing shop and the color tone came out all wrong.. :(

Rose Garden And...... A Little Smile

I'm not surprise at all to find molds growing on my color palette when I took it out from the cabinet. lol.

Finally I have something new to show. 'Rose Garden', I've named it.

I love roses.... only blue ones... or purplish flowers like the lavender and forget-me-not. I wish there are black roses. Someday I'm going to try to grow black roses. :)

Prints are not available for sale yet. Pls stay tuned for more info.

This evening I ran into two friends at different time. Had a little chat with both of them. It was pleasant. :)

When I got home and opened my email, I was greeted by a lovely message from this wonderful customer who bought six postcards from me weeks ago. The message goes like this,

''I just wanted to let you know that I received the postcards yesterday in the mail and they are beautiful! Thank you! I'm going to frame these and put them on my wall! What a wonderful fusion of art and music. LOVE IT!!!''

Funny how at times when you wasn't feeling your best, things like this happen; you ran into friends or friendly strangers on the street... you receive a sweet little gift when it wasn't even your birthday.... your favorite song came on the radio.... someone complimented you... and........ you smile that smile of yours. Suddenly your day doesn't seem so bad afterall.

Did someone or something make you smile today? Pass on that smile. :)

Christmas Carol

Check out another adorable piece added to my Christmas series! Good news is, I have decided to proceed with my postcards idea so you can purchase them as postcards soon, hopefully by the end of October (keeping my fingers crossed). If you would like to get this as a print instead, pls visit my Etsy store HERE.

Christmas has always been my favourite festival. Even more so than our traditional Chinese New Year (I am not ashame to admit it). I came from a Buddhist family, we don't celebrate Christmas and there is no winter here in Singapore so I don't understand why this day is so special to me. Perhaps it is the warm feeling you get everywhere you go when this day is approaching? Plus, the shopping and exchanging of Christmas gifts is so much fun!

I remember one of the most memorable Christmas happened during my high school days. I was from the Girls' Brigade. On one Christmas, we dressed up all in white.. with a little tea light candle in our hands, we went from house to house, singing the carol. I will never forget the love, warm and peace I felt that day.

If I could have a white christmas (I mean REAL snow!) this lifetime, I would gladly trade ANY holiday I can have with it. By the way, I already know how my snowman is going to look like.

Before I end this, I have a very cute video to share with you. It has got nothing to do with Christmas but it sure cracked me up. Everyone was having so much fun. Enjoy to this one and tell me if you had or would do this (or something crazier) for your wedding? ;) Have a fun weekend~

Fallen Angel

My lastest work! This was an assignment I did for Hyde Park Review of Books’ relaunch issue. (The Hyde Park Review of Books critiques promising poetry, fiction, and nonfiction from small, medium, independent and University presses. They also publish interviews, reportage, essays, and audio/visuals on bookculture and they've been featured in Utne Reader, Wired Magazine, McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, and Arts & Letters Daily).

Theme: surrealist (ghost, Angel, papier-mache submarines, talking shoes, etc). Mood: sadness, lost, darkness and fear. I was really excited when I saw 'Angel' in the list. For those of you who have been following my blog, you should know about my extreme obsession with Angels. Needless to say, I picked Angel to work on.

rough sketch after some brainstorming..(this Angel looks as though she has got hairy legs! Haha!!)

This time I tried something different from my previous works. Instead of working solely on watercolor or pen technique, I did a mix media - watercolor and pen (plus a bit of photoshop).
water color for the background
pen on the Angel and other parts of the drawing. Finally, a touch of white (on her body/ wings) and red with photoshop.

she is broken, lost and sad...

What do you think of the finished product? I was hoping to try a full watercolor medium some time later. And perhaps add a few drops of tears on her face? (I hate datelines.. Argh!)

*Pls do not use any of the above image without my permission. Thank you.

What's Up

Sorry for neglecting my blog for quite a while. If only you are right in front of me, my apologetic face looks something like this -----> /_\
I hope my fellow readers did not abandon me because of this?? If you're reading this, it mean you did not! Haha. Well, thank you for being so faithful.

Let's see what was I up to for the past week. There are a couple of good news I am going to share with you. I was so hounored to be approached by this online design website, designeRoof, to showcase some of my works on their site. Yay! Here is the link to the page. Be sure to check out some of the great artists/designers on the site as well.

The second wonderful thing that happened.. I was introduced to a friend's friend who owns a coffee house here in Singapore - The Coffee Nations. This very generous boss actually offered me a space to showcase some of my works, believe it or not, for NO cost at all! Best part was, he even offered to help me sell off the products if customers are interested to purchase them. Again, for NO commission at all! Where on earth can you find such a great deal especially when you've only met that person for the first time? All I can say is, I must have done a whole lot of good deeds in my past life. lol.

Here are some of the pics I took at the coffee house.

Before and...

after. I hope my products look more appealing than the puffs. lol. Oh I forgot to mention this is a two storey coffee house. A few of my paintings are also displayed on the second floor. Hee.

Coffee and travels is the concept of this coffee house. Here at The Coffee Nations, you get to taste different coffee from around the world. I really like its cosy ambiance.

Beautiful travel pics.

This place looks even nicer if you come in the evening.

Do come by when you visit Singapore! For more details, you can check here.
Oh boy, trust me, I've got so much more to share but my brain is threatening to pass out any minute. The time here is 1:37am now and I seriously need my beauty sleep. Good night to me and good morning to some of you. Zzzzzz........

BIG NEWS!!

After much consideration, I've opened a 2nd etsy store and 'relocated' all my Dollgift merchandise over. Fans of Dollgift, I hope you will visit our new store and continue to show us your support. Do you know I nearly bang my head on the wall for not doing this earlier when there were fewer items. Serves me right for being lazy, I had to re-list EVERYTHING again. The worse has yet to come. Read on to find out more...

For those of you who have been following Byrheea's news, most of the paintings are available in store now! Below are a few samples. If you like what you're seeing, please visit here for more details.

Now my worse nightmare is here. In brief, I have TWO official websites to maintain (byrheea.com and mydollgift.com), TWO etsy stores, DeviantArt, Flickr and a BLOG! Sigh. Why have I landed myself in this state. I know I have to find a solution to make my life easier (before I decide to bang my head on the wall again). SO. After weighing my options and going through all the agony.. I'm going with this solution; to remove the ENTIRE shopping carts from my official site and link the merchandise page directly to my Etsy store. But. Saying is easier than doing because this means all my effort and blood and tears and sweat and sleepless nights and...and... will all go down the toilet bowl.

Now I only hope you (yes everyone of you) could please pay a last visit to my site before I kill it. Thank you. Excuse me if you would for now, I need some time to grief...

'A Letter For You' Postcard

This afternoon, I just collected my first series of byrheea postcards together with my new business cards from the printer's. Fresh out of the oven, these postcards are packaged and ready to be sent out to the lucky winners first thing tomorrow. For those who have missed my Postcard Poll, you may checkout the post here.

A bit of sidetrack. I found these lovely hair clips while doing some shopping the other day and little Devon flashed across my mind. Devon, Emily's irresistibly adorable toddler is also a model for the clothes she make. Of course I am not exaggerating when I say Devon is a darling. Checkout her blog and tell me that you agree with me ;)

If you'd like to purchase this postcards set, they will be ready for sale in Etsy very soon. :D

Postcard Poll

Hi everyone, I need your help! Which of the following 8 images do you think I should choose as byrheea's FIRST postcard print? You know, I would love to have them ALL but for now I can only afford one design. :( So please save my headache and decide for me.
Each of you are only entitled to ONE vote and closing date will be 31 Jan (next Sat). On 1 Feb, I'll announce the winning design and handpicked 5 lucky winners to receive this very first byrheea postcard set (3 postcards per set), titled and signed at the back.

Voting list is right beside this post.

1) Bear in mind that you can only vote once. To ensure each person only cast ONE vote, I'm going to count the votes by the number of comments I receive.

2) Be sure to leave a comment with the title of image you've voted. This is VERY IMPORTANT. Sadly, the poll does not have this function so there is no way I can know who voted for which image and thus it wouldn't be counted.

I'll contact you if you're one of the lucky winners. Good luck. :)

*Have you casted your vote and left your comment with the title of the image? If you do, thank you. :)
