Christmas Carol

Check out another adorable piece added to my Christmas series! Good news is, I have decided to proceed with my postcards idea so you can purchase them as postcards soon, hopefully by the end of October (keeping my fingers crossed). If you would like to get this as a print instead, pls visit my Etsy store HERE.

Christmas has always been my favourite festival. Even more so than our traditional Chinese New Year (I am not ashame to admit it). I came from a Buddhist family, we don't celebrate Christmas and there is no winter here in Singapore so I don't understand why this day is so special to me. Perhaps it is the warm feeling you get everywhere you go when this day is approaching? Plus, the shopping and exchanging of Christmas gifts is so much fun!

I remember one of the most memorable Christmas happened during my high school days. I was from the Girls' Brigade. On one Christmas, we dressed up all in white.. with a little tea light candle in our hands, we went from house to house, singing the carol. I will never forget the love, warm and peace I felt that day.

If I could have a white christmas (I mean REAL snow!) this lifetime, I would gladly trade ANY holiday I can have with it. By the way, I already know how my snowman is going to look like.

Before I end this, I have a very cute video to share with you. It has got nothing to do with Christmas but it sure cracked me up. Everyone was having so much fun. Enjoy to this one and tell me if you had or would do this (or something crazier) for your wedding? ;) Have a fun weekend~

My Inspiration - Ray Caesar

Two years ago I stumbled upon Ray Caesar's art. He has been one of my BIGGEST favorite artists ever since. I couldn't recall how many hundred times I've re-visited his site but one thing I do know for sure; each time I see his works, I fell in love with them all over again. Words alone could not express my admiration for this artist so today I am going to show you what I mean by 'gifted'.

About the Artist:
''I was born in London England in 1958 and the youngest of a very strange and sometimes frightening family. When I was fifteen I met a girl called Michiko and I have been in love with her ever since. Due to a twist of fate I ended up working in a Children's Hospital for 17 years and although I didn't like the job very much it changed my life and led me down a path to where I am now. Those years taught me about the cruelties of Man and Nature but also that Miracles do exist and are often the product of our own actions. I make pictures all day because I really don't have a choice in the matter and I am lucky that I love doing it ...there was a time I hated doing it but that is nicely packaged in pretty paper and put away in the past. I beleive that you must have both sunlight and moonlight to see the truth. I am a bit of a hermit and usually have to have an internal argument to open the front door and step outside my house. I never learned to drive a car because I believe that red is the color of action and green is a calming color ... so I walk through life slowly and that has been a blessing............well enough about me! .....did I mention I love dogs ?''

How can one's art seems so creepy yet so beautiful...? I hope one day my art will have the same influence on someone, just like how Ray Caesar had on me. A compliment from one client I would never forget goes something like this, ''I remember hearing that the best art is one that makes people feel like they are a part of it. It makes them feel good inside or added something to their hearts. A great artist achieves that, sometimes without even realizing it. Your art is like that.'' Words like this remind me of why I want to be an artist. What was the most beautiful thing someone had ever said to you? :)

PLUCK

Hello everyone! It's the weekend again. Thank you for all the well wishes.. I have fully recovered and I can finally snack again (in fact it has already started a few days back). :p

Two days ago, I made a visit to my newest brick and mortar consignment store. I was delighted to learn that sales was pretty encouraging in a mere two weeks. :) Located at 31/33 Haji Lane, Singapore 189226, PLUCK carries a selection of vintage home furnishings and fashion accessories. There is also a little ice cream parlour that serves homemade ice cream and yummy desserts for anyone with a sweet tooth like me!

My works are displayed right in the middle of the shop. :)

As well as on the third shelf.

More images and information can be found on their website here. For those of you who may not be aware, my works are currently for sale at several brick and mortar stores across Singapore namely, The Coffee Nations, Cat Socrates, Forest N Trees (click on the names to visit my posts on the stores) and the latest, PLUCK. Pls take note that Anthropology is no longer in the list. If you are planning your next vacation to this lovely sunny island, I hope you will include ONE of these stores (or two, or three.. ) to your places-to-visit list. In advance, I thank you for your time and support. :)

My Mid-Autumn Festival

Last weekend we celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival (sometimes referred to as the Lantern Festival or Mooncake Festival). This joyous festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, which is usually around late September or early October in the Western calendar. This day was also considered a harvest festival since fruits, vegetables and grain would be harvested by this time. Families and friends gather to celebrate; eating mooncakes under the bright, full moon. Not forgetting, 'playing' with candles and lanterns!

The traditional mooncakes are made with melon seeds, lotus seeds, almonds or bean paste. The center of each cake is filled with salted egg yolk.

This year, I had a wonderful time with a few friends at Mount Faber. (Mount Faber is a hill in Singapore that embodies the beauty of nature amongst the urban sophistication of Singapore). Of course, I had taken some pics to share with you.

Beautiful paper lanterns!

Oh no, this one was burnt..

Mini fireworks!

We lighted up the whole pillar...No, we did not vandalise.. we beautified it! :p

See, I told you. Isn't this beautiful? :)

Today I have two more pieces of news to share. First of all, my work was featured in Etsy treasury again! Yay! This was one of the loveliest treasury I've seen. I love all the selections. Thank you, Tecla!

Another news... I'm sick!!! :( I'm having a blocked nose and I lost my voice. I have so much phlegm in my throat, I think I can make a BIG cup of yogurt drink with it. (Ewwww!) Ha! But don't worry, I will be good in no time. I have to be.. there are plenty of tasks waiting for me to do. Take good care everyone!~
